Scrubbing machines
Scrubbing machines are recommended for washing and drying indoor floors. You can also clean even, non-abrasive outdoor surfaces. They're mainly used for regular maintenance cleaning, but can also perform deep-down or special cleaning (when adapted for this function).

What is a scrubber-dryer and how does it work?
Floor cleaning takes up about 54% of overall cleaning time.
On the other hand the floor represents important aspects of the comfort of an environment:
• The aesthetic aspect linked to cleaning and to its finishing
• The safety aspect linked to a floor slipperiness
• The hygiene aspect linked to cleaning and sanitation
These observations gave rise to the need to mechanise floor-cleaning, with the aims of:</b>
• Reducing floor-cleaning times
• Making the floor immediately usable
• Assuring constant cleaning results
The automatic scrubbing machines were designed to satisfy these aims. In one single operation, they
Wash, dry and sanitise the floor, leaving the surface completely dry.
The machine consists of:
• A washing unit with one, to or up to four disc or roller brushes, activated by electric motors using water and
detergent to remove the dirt.
• A collection and suction system for floor dirty water (squeegee)
• Water and detergent deposits (also called solution) and recovery deposits (dirty water)
• A control and driving system
• The machines can be powered with a battery (or batteries), cable-powered (mains) or, for the largest models, with petrol or diesel motors
• The operator can use the machines walking (walk-behind scrubbing machines) or
sitting on them (ride-on scrubbing machines).

How many types of scrubbing machines are there on the market?
There are walk-behind and ride-on models for professional use, with a work-track (or cleaning-track) ranging from 35 to 130cm. Of course, while the functioning modes are similar they do differ in terms of performance, although the common aim is to make them more and more simple and intuitive.
The smallest Vispa (available with both an electric and a battery power supply), only requires to have the deposit filled with water and detergent in order to be used; while the washing and function modes are clearly indicated by the commands (3 buttons) on the handle; brush coupling and uncoupling requires no manual operations and the tanks can be easily filled thanks to the handy inlet.
The battery operated version has a built-in battery-charger, so you just need to connect the cable (supplied) to the mains supply for quick, easy recharging.
The large machines have also been designed with the aim of simplifying the commands, so the most frequent applications now have pre-set programs activated by a single command.
The fact that design focuses on ease-of-use means we can simplify operator training enormously, while still obviously assuring the maximum safety.
Thanks to their reduced noise levels, Comac machines can even be used where people are present, during work time - a fact further facilitated by their ease-of-use.
How many square metres can I clean? Can I clean all types of flooring?
The wide range of Comac products makes automatic cleaning economically viable. The automatically cleanable area goes from 200 sq.m. to 20,000 sq.m. with the use of machines with Diesel motors. Every type of floor can be washed and dried. For some of them it is necessary, however, to follow certain warnings as regards the quantity of water to be use, the type of brush or abrasive floor pad, and the force applied.
To conclude, mechanical washing is suitable for every type of floor except carpeting, natural wood, or suspended flooring.

Is it really possible to wash and dry even a small surface with a scrubbing machine?
Comac has created Vispa, a revolutionary scrubbing machine with very compact dimensions that make it ideal for use in small and busy environments.
Vispa can move through narrow spaces (even in a width of only 40cm) where no scrubbing machine has managed to pass up to now. This machine washes the floor with water and detergents using a mechanical brush action, but at the same time it also sucks up the dirt, leaving behind a perfectly dry floor.
This scrubbing machine was built with the professional sector criteria. It can install different types of brushes and pad holder to solve any dirt problem on any type of floor. It can deal with difficult dirt conditions and soil maintenance conditions. In the first case, it is recommended to pre-wash the floor, letting the detergent solution to operate before applying the suction operation. For normal dirt on the other hand, you can wash and suction (dry) in a single step.
Why should I use a scrubbing machine for cleaning areas of limited size?
There are many reasons, but we'll concentrate on the main ones (those put forward by the users themselves). The main reason is that when you use a scrubbing machine with the right detergent, the floor gets an important sanitation process that cannot be compared with the manual cleaning systems (mop + bucket) usually used on environments with small surfaces (up to about 1,000 sqm).
Furthermore, cleaning operations take just half the time and require no effort at all from the operator. All things considered, there are good economic savings.
Are the scrubbing machines difficult to use?
Obviously not. While offering benefits of a professional nature, their use is very easy thanks to the attention placed in making their tasks as easy as possible for both battery and cable-powered models. Training is completely unnecessary; just follow the instructions in the manual and you're ready to work.
Thanks to years of experience, the current models have simplified command systems while assuring maximum product functionality. On larger machines, the use of electronics means the command systems have a single button for machine operation, and specific washing programs can be pre-set for the desired application. Furthermore, the special attention to the ergonomic form of the instrument panels and commands allows you to immediately recognise the individual functions, so learning times for the operator are minimised.
Can I use any type of detergent?
The scrubbing machines can be used with any type of detergent explicitly created for these machines. Following the manufacturer's indications with regard to dilution (using the measuring system fitted on certain models), excellent results can be obtained. It is absolutely forbidden to use products like caustic soda, acids, diluents or solvents.
Do scrubbing machines have a very high water and detergent consumption?
The automation of floor-cleaning involves:
- A reduction in working times and the immediate floor usage
- Improving the hygienic standard of the surface and the maintenance over the time
- Consumption reduction associated with washing operations
Indeed
Water: cleaning by scrubbing machine optimises water consumption (and consequently detergent).
As a comparison, we can wash and sanitise one sq.m. of floor using 0.05 litres of solution, against the 0.5 litres needed with the manual
system, while assuring highly improved hygiene results.
Detergent: a reduction in water consumption means a reduction in detergent consumption too. Referring again to
the previous example, with 5cc of concentrated detergent we can wash 10 s.q.m.
Are there any particular devices for reducing consumption levels?
Comac has developed a special system (CDS - Comac Dosing System)</b> to further reduce water consumption as well as
detergent. It is applicable on machines of medium-large size.
The control system of the solution CDS (Comac Dosign System) can provide continuity and consistency in the flow of
required water and reduces the solution consumption up to 50%
Furthermore, a particular system assures the exact distribution of the solution steadily on the two brushes and you can wash
the floor with a very small amount of water thereby facilitating the drying operation.
Does it need a lot of maintenance?
The scrubbing machine washes and picks up the dirt, this consideration justifies the need for maintenance related to its use.
The technology and technical solutions have made possible the minimisation of the necessary operations.
After using the machine it is necessary to drain the dirty water and rinse out the recovery tank, clean the squeegee rubbers and
if the machine is battery-powered, recharge the batteries.
The filters must be cleaned regularly, with an authorised technician carrying out a check occasionally, or once a year.
How do I choose the right model for me?
In order to select the most appropriate model for your needs, the software can be used "FIND YOUR IDEAL MACHINE" that will help you
identify the scrubbing machine that best suits your needs.
After this, you can examine the choice with our retailer, to decide the exact model and
evaluate its use and functions.
Is there a warranty?
Given that these devices are designed for professional use, the law doesn't require a warranty.
Obviously, Comac assures their own manufactured machines.
You can get more information about these aspects from your local retailer.
