Why Comac?
Digital sustainability
Sustainability isn’t just about the products we create; it encompasses every aspect of Comac’s activities, including our digital impact. The internet is one of the most revolutionary inventions of our time, but it comes with a hidden cost that we often overlook: digital pollution. The environmental impact of online activities is real and constantly growing, with the web significantly contributing to global CO2 emissions. That’s why we decided to tackle this challenge with an innovative project in collaboration with Karma Metrix, aimed at making our company website greener and more efficient.
- Servers and data centers, which consume vast amounts of energy, often sourced from non-renewable resources;
- Cooling systems, essential for the operation of data centers but also highly energy-intensive;
- Inefficient website design, which increases energy consumption and the carbon footprint.
Our Digital Sustainability Journey with Karma Metrix
Karma Metrix is the first digital sustainability platform that, through an algorithm, measures CO2 emissions, certifies them, and improves the environmental impact of a website. By working with Karma Metrix, we have conducted an in-depth analysis of the CO2 emissions generated by the most visited pages on our website. Through this analysis, we received the Karma Metrix Energy Efficient Website seal, a recognition of Comac’s energy efficiency and commitment to reducing the environmental impact of digital activities. During the analysis, the 100 most visited pages, from both desktop and smartphone, were examined to measure the carbon footprint of each. The data revealed that, currently, each page view generates an average of 1.54 grams of CO2e, with an estimated annual total of 0.33 tons of CO2e. Although these values are already better than the global average, our commitment doesn’t end here: our goal is to continue optimizing the website to further reduce CO2 emissions.
- Optimizing images and multimedia content, reducing their size and improving their format to decrease data and energy consumption.
- Streamlining the code, by eliminating unnecessary elements that increase the site’s energy load.
