Why Comac?
Comac's Biodiversity Oasis
Perched in the hills of Tregnago, a few kilometres from Verona, we created a project that embodies our sustainability vision and respect for the environment: Comac's biodiversity oasis. Created in conjunction with 3Bee, a nature tech company which develops biodiversity monitoring and protection technologies, Comac's oasis is a concrete commitment towards a greener future. Comac's small but significant contribution towards environmental and biodiversity protection.
The project: a refuge for pollinators
The Biodiversity Oasis was conceived a s gift to Comac to celebrate its fiftieth anniversary, but above all leave a tangible mark of the company's commitment towards a greener future. We planted one hundred nectar plants, chosen for their ability to provide constant nutrition to the pollinators. Besides helping to improve the health of the local ecosystem, these plants also offer a safe refuge for pollinator insects, allowing their survival and prosperity.
We then installed two technological beehives provided with advanced biomonitoring systems. Featuring the 3Bee Hive-Tech technology, these beehives help us to monitor the health condition of the bees and collect precious data on the surrounding environment, therefore contributing to protecting and regenerating biodiversity.
Partnership with 3Bee: innovation at the service of nature
Our collaboration with 3Bee was key to creating Comac's Biodiversity Oasis. 3Bee, a nature tech company leader in biodiversity protection through innovation, provided us with the tools needed to create the space and to monitor the health condition of the bees and the surrounding atmosphere in real time. Besides the Hive-Tech system, which collects environmental data on the bees, 3Bee also applies Spectrum technologies to monitor wild pollinators and Flora for processing indices from satellite images, providing a complete and detailed vision of the local ecosystem dynamics. The Oasis’ ecological equilibrium is constantly monitored to provide the support that bees and other pollinators need to survive and prosper.
A shared commitment: engaging collaborators, customers and stakeholders
At Comac, we believe collaboration is the only way to achieve sustainability. Therefore, there is much more to the Oasis Biodiversity than a simple environmental protection project. As a matter of fact, it is also a tool through which we hope and strive to create awareness among people. We want to share information to engage our collaborators, customers and stakeholders, inspiring each one of them to be proactive in this change. A project, seven sustainable development goals
Comac's Biodiversity Oasis is a concrete commitment towards sustainability and it addresses various United Nations Agenda 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Collaboration with 3Bee and application of their technologies has helped us to contribute towards achieving seven major global goals:
- SDG 2 - Zero hunger: by protecting pollinators, which are key to sustainable farming, we foster food safety.
- SDG 6 - Clean water and sanitation: we promote a responsible management of water resources, improving the health of ecosystems.
- SDG 8 - Decent work and economic growth: 3Bee engages local partners, ensuring they get ethical pay to promote a sustainable economy based on preservation of nature and application of IoT technology in the protection of biodiversity.
- SDG 11 - Sustainable cities and communities: Oasis contributes to promoting environmental awareness among people and create regenerative green areas improving the quality of life in the surrounding areas.
- SDG 13 - Combatting climate change: by planting trees which help to reduce emission of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
- SDG 15 - Life on land: 3Bee is building the biggest ecological corridor for pollinators with more than 100 regenerated hectares and more than 1.5 billion monitored bees.
- SDG 17 - Partnerships for the goals: 3Bee collaborates with a network of partners to promote sustainability, creating synergies which amplify the biodiversity projects and contributing to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
